Preambles: The Journey to Self-discovery

The journey to self-discovery is a series of articles first published on my Instagram platform. The thought to put this into writing started during family devotion when my children started asking how one can discover himself. It dawned on me that many are living purposelessly in this world without really knowing who they are. I hope the series of articles will help you and me to discover who we are and enlighten us on how to actualize God’s plans for our lives.

The Journey To Self-discovery Part 3:

Every gadget has a manual, but we underutilized many gadgets because we don’t read their manual. Every creature of God was created for a purpose. Fishes are created to swim and birds are created to fly. So also, every man is created to function in a particular area of gifting. Our God is a God of purpose. Every man is born with a purpose. So we cannot afford to live our lives purposelessly. There is a specific assignment that God wants you to carry out here on earth.
One of the ways to discover who you are is to check the manual for your life. The scriptures is the manual that defines who you are. Your picture is in the scriptures. Just like a man needs the mirror to see how he looks like physically, man needs the scripture to see his picture spiritually. How does the word of God define you?

Parents can actually know God’s purpose for their children even before their conception. Mary knew that Jesus Christ will save the world from their sin, before his conception. Samson’s parent knew God’s plan for him before his conception. Moses’ mother was spiritually sensitive to know that Moses was not an ordinary child, so she hid him & kept him from being killed. Hannah knew that the son that God will give her will be God’s servant.  Abraham knew that Isaac was the child of promise. Jacob knew what will happen to each of his children. He even predicted that Jesus Christ will come from the lineage of Judah.
However, Isaac was not spiritually sensitive to the plans & purpose of God for His children. He wanted to bless Esau instead of Jacob. Joseph did not realize that his younger son Ephraim will be greater than Manasseh. Jacob his father was more spiritually sensitive & he said the younger shall be greater than the older. One of the major mistakes we make as a parent is thinking that the firstborn must have the best privileges above the younger ones. But God many times leaves the elder & use the younger. For instance Moses, Aaron & Miriam, Jacob & Esau, Joseph & his brothers, & David & his brothers. So let’s be sensitive to God’s leading.
